Being named while the AI explains a topic and being recommended to someone are two different things. The second one requires the machine to defend why you. Here is what it needs.
There are two questions people ask artificial intelligence that look alike without being alike. One is what is this. The other is who do I go to for this. The first is answered with knowledge. The second is answered with a name. And to give a name, the machine needs more than knowing you exist: it needs to be able to defend why you.
Because mentioning you costs it little and recommending you costs it a lot. When it explains a topic, the machine can take an idea of yours and move on. When someone asks for a recommendation, it is putting its judgment on the line. There, having your name near the topic is not enough: it has to be able to say who you work for, what problem you solve, and with what result. If that is not clearly stated anywhere, it would rather name someone it can say that about.
Finding the same thing said consistently across the places it crosses, and having that include the fit, not just the topic. Your topic makes you relevant. Your fit makes you recommendable. Fit is who you serve, in what context, at what scope, and what happens afterward. It is the difference between knows about this and is who you take this to.
No, and the figure is blunt: only 12% of what artificial intelligence cites is in Google’s top 10, as Ahrefs measured in 2025. Ranking high helps, because the machine crosses what the search engine indexes, but it is not the passport. What counts is that artificial intelligence and Google read the same thing about you, with no contradictions between one place and another.
The machine always makes the call. Anyone promising otherwise is selling something they do not control. What is in your hands is leaving it without excuses: that it can read you, understand you, and explain why it named you. That gets built. The result gets earned.
The full mechanism behind that reading is in how to get artificial intelligence to cite you as a source. If your question is what happens next, it is in what changes in your business when the AI recommends you.
