If you have spent years investing in SEO, the honest question isn’t whether SEO died. It’s which part of that investment still works now that a machine is the one answering. Here is the inventory, without the diplomacy.

Still working

Stopped paying off

What was never on the list

And it’s what carries the most weight today: making your name, your topic, and your authority say the same thing everywhere. No classic SEO audit was going to flag it, because it doesn’t affect ranking. It affects whether the machine dares to name you. It’s fixed by ordering, not by publishing: one main place in your name, one description that doesn’t change from site to site, and verifiable backing that points to the same person.

How to check in five minutes whether your investment is working

Don’t open the rankings report. Ask an assistant to recommend someone in your specialty, without saying your name. If you come up, the investment built recognition. If you don’t come up and you rank well, it bought reach, which isn’t the same thing.

The underlying distinction between the two games is in SEO and AEO, why they’re two different games.
