The AI says something old or wrong about me, what can I do?

You ask about your name and the answer leaves you in a role you left three years ago, or in a sector that isn’t yours anymore. The impulse is to look for where to correct it. That button doesn’t exist, and it’s worth understanding why before losing time looking for it.

Can you ask them to correct it?

Not the way you imagine. A model doesn’t keep a file on you that someone can edit. It builds the answer from what it finds and what it learned, and there is no retraction form. Anyone offering to delete what the AI says about you is promising something they don’t control.

So what does work?

Displacement. The old doesn’t get erased, it becomes less convincing than the new. That happens when newer, clearer, easier-to-confirm material exists saying the right thing, and when that material shows up in several places artificial intelligence and Google can cross. The machine doesn’t retract, it reorients.

Why does it take time?

Because the answer doesn’t update when you publish, it updates when what you published is read, crossed, and confirmed. That lag is real and it counts in weeks, not days. It’s the reason correcting late costs more than building on time.

What do you do in the meantime?

Two things. Stop feeding the old version, by updating or taking down what still holds it up under your own name. And be explicit about the new: state the change, don’t leave it to be inferred. The machine doesn’t infer a career turn, it reads it if it’s written.

How do you avoid coming back to this?

By checking. What the AI answers about you changes without warning, and noticing late is the expensive part. If your name is what sells, that answer is already part of your sales force, and that angle is in my name is what sells. When assistants contradict each other, the reading is in ChatGPT says one thing and Gemini another.
